Blackface Sheep

The Blackface sheep or Scottish Blackface is a hardy and resilient breed native to the UK. Despite its name the breed originated south of the border (according to Wikipedia), though the Scottish Blackface Breeders Association claims them as Scottish. The animal is particularly suited to the rugged landscapes of Scotland, particularly in the Highlands and Borders. It is the most numerous pure breed in Britain.

Known for their distinctive black or mottled faces and legs, these sheep are horned and have thick, coarse wool that helps them withstand harsh weather conditions. They are primarily raised for meat and wool, with their fleece often used in the production of carpets and tweed fabric.

Blackface sheep are excellent foragers, capable of thriving on rough terrain where other breeds might struggle. Their adaptability and strong maternal instincts make them a popular choice among farmers in the UK and beyond.
