In 2022 Ilkley, a small town of almost 15,000 inhabitants in West Yorkshire, was named Best Place to Live by the Sunday Times.

Beating out 70 other towns and villages, Ilkley was chosen because of its top schools, interesting shops, spectacular scenery, and convenient rail links. Other factors influencing the judges were the sports clubs, community spirit, and the local cinema and market, but the closeness of the dramatic Ilkley Moor was obviously a major factor.
