Images of Britain: St Peter, Lydford on Fosse

St Peter's Church in the Somerset village of Lydford on Fosse dates from 1846.
The architect was Benjamin Ferrey (1810-1880) and the building replaced an earlier church on the site.
The interior includes a nave, chancel and north aisle with a 15th century font and stained glass from the workshop of the glass master William Wailes (1808-1881).
The church tower is supported by buttresses and has a peal of six bells.
Lydford on Fosse gets its name from the Roman Fosse Way which connected Exeter and Lincoln. It is is private hands, no longer used for worship and somewhat derelict.
Another nearby church is the Church of St Mary in East Lydford. Most of the church's fittings were moved to St Peter's after its sale in 1993.
Address: High Street, West Lydford, Somerton TA11 7DB
