The D. C. Thomson & Co publishing company are based in the city of Dundee in Tayside, Scotland. The company published such former classic comics as The Dandy (1937) and The Beano (1938). A statue of Desperate Dan and other characters from the comics, such as Minnie the Minx, Oor Wullie and Dawg the Dog can all be seen here and there in Dundee city center.

Their HQ at 2 Albert Square was built from 1904-6 in true American style by architects Niven and Wigglesworth.

The architecture shows the influence of American skyscrapers built at the time in New York and Chicago.

This area of Dundee was the commercial heart of the city at the time with banks, hotels, museums and offices as well as the city's library, school and main post office.
