Baskerville House Birmingham

Baskerville House is an Art Deco style office building built in 1938 and located adjacent to the magnificent Library of Birmingham on Centenary Square in the centre of Birmingham.

Originally built to hold offices for several departments of the City Council, they vacated the property in 1998 and the building was subsequently refurbished and modernized with extra floors added and now is occupied by a variety of businesses.

The building is named after John Baskerville (1707-1785) who lived at this site. He is most well known for creating the Baskerville typeface although he also created many other innovations in the paper and printing industry. His home was demolished to make way for a couple of canal basins, but when they were later filled in the council built the current building.
