United Kingdom House aka UK House at 164-182 Oxford Street in London is a striking building on the capital's main shopping street. It takes up an entire block between Great Titchfield Street and Winsley Street on the northern side of Oxford Street.
The brick and stone building opened in 1906 as Waring and Gillow's furnishing department store. It was designed by architect Frank Atkinson with the façade supposedly inspired by Hampton Court Palace. Construction started at the same time as Harrods in 1901.
The building is now a mix of upmarket retail and offices premises. Tenants include Arqiva, Dell, Christian Dior, H&M, Schibsted, and Microsoft UK.
The interior has been recently refurbished by Swiss architecture studio, Christ & Gantenbein. It now includes showers and bicycle parking in the basement, destination control lifts and 365 24/7 access.
The building is close to Oxford Circus tube station, the Twist Museum and The Photographer's Gallery. The Courthouse Hotel is a nearby luxury hotel housed in a Grade II Listed building.
