Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery is a classically-designed building that serves as both a war memorial to the town's fallen in World War I and World War II and also as an art gallery.

It is located on the A6 opposite Stockport Town Hall in the town of Stockport in the north west of England south of Manchester.

History

The building was opened by HRH Prince Henry on October 15, 1925.

The marble interior includes a list of names of local men and women who died during World War I and World War II.

Stockport Art Gallery is free to enter and is open to the public during exhibitions. It is closed on Mondays and open Tuesday to Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm; Saturdays 10 am to 5 pm; Sundays 11 am to 5 pm and bank holidays from 11 am to 5 pm.

Transport Details

The art gallery is next to Stockport College and a 15-minute walk south from Stockport Station, which has frequent connections to Manchester Piccadilly.

Strawberry Studios is a short walk away on Waterloo Road.

Coming from Hazel Grove take a 192 bus and get off at Stockport College.
