Most pubs in the city close around 11 pm but one or two stay open later for night owls.

The Ale House

The Ale House is one of Bath's few late night pubs and attracts a diverse crowd after 11 pm in the evening. The staff are friendly, there is outdoor seating and sometimes impromptu music inside and a small venue upstairs. It stays open until 2 or 3 am every night. Enjoy.

The pub is on York Street close to the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and Parade Gardens.

The Assembly Inn

The Assembly Inn on Alfred Street not far from The Circus, The Royal Crescent and the Jane Austen Centre is a no-nonsense sports bar with televised football, rugby and F1. There is also a pool table in the smaller room. It can get pretty noisy when the F1 is on on a Sunday so head outside to the outdoor benches and tables if you want a quiet drink to ease your Saturday night hangover.

The Black Fox

The Black Fox is a former 18th century inn which serves craft ales, Bath gin and pretty good food including classic English ale battered fish and chips and a full English breakfast. You can also stay here in one of the three individually designed en suite rooms. Book a room at The Black Fox.

The Cork

The Cork is an events pub drawing a mainly younger, studenty crowd. There are two bars, two vaulted karaoke pods, The Vault event space and a large alfresco garden area. Enjoy DJ nights, pub quizzes and Drag Queen Bingo!

Garrick's Head

The Garrick's Head is named after David Garrick (1717-1779), English actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer. The Garrick's Head pub and dining room is situated next door to the Theatre Royal in the centre of Bath. The original building where the pub is now located was built by Thomas Greenway for Richard 'Beau' Nash around 1720.

The pub features a large outdoor terrace. Moreover, it is ideally located for pre-theatre dining/drinking as its location leaves you only minutes from your seat. Visitors popping in after the show may find themselves rubbing shoulders with the stars of the show.

The Grapes

Just north of The Cork, The Grapes on Westgate Street has been a pub since 1792 and a lodging for even longer. Nowadays it's very much a music-centered pub with DJ nights, live bands and jazz.

There are three sound proofed bedrooms upstairs let to only one set of guests at any time, so you will have the place to yourself, they say.

The Huntsman

A Fuller's pub and restaurant in the center of Bath, The Huntsman claims the oldest façade in the city no less. The food menu has seasonal, locally-sourced pub classics (think pies, burgers, fish and chips, scampi etc) and there is London Pride on tap plus a range of fine wines.

The Raven

The Raven in its own words is "a traditional old English pub....known for our hearty pies and sausages, perfectly paired with a rotating selection of real ales, ciders, and wine."

If that sounds up your street pop in on Queen Street not far from the Theatre Royal and Queen Square. They also market their own craft ales - bottled Raven Ale & Raven's Gold.

The Saracen's Head

The Saracen's Head claims to be Bath's oldest pub built in 1713 and counting one Charles Dickens as a customer.

A Greene King pub, it still boasts vintage low ceiling beams and tiled floors. More modern amenities include televised sports, WiFi and a food menu.

The Salamander

The Salamander aka The Sally serves food and a choice of beers from Bath Ales and beyond. Bath Ales' distinctive beers include Gem, a bitter-sweet amber ale, and Dark Side, a delicious chocolaty stout. There is also a good selection of wines, non-alcoholic beers and spirits.

The pub is owned by Bath Ales, an independent brewery, which was established in 1995. Bath Ales' founders share a brewing background and a passion for craft ales. As for food it's pub classics on the menu.

The Sam Weller's

Named after a character in Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers this cosy city center pub was previously the Full Moon but has been under new management since 2022. No food but you can bring your own. Stays open late on Friday and Saturday. Outside seating.

The West Gate

The West Gate is another Greene King Pub close to the Roman Baths. There is food, live sports and a good atmosphere on two floors in this once 17th century coaching inn, then called The Angel. Try the excellent Greene King IPA.

The George Inn, Bathampton

A little out of Bath in Bathampton is the George Inn. The pub was once a 13th-century monastery. Today, it's a Grade II listed, ivy-clad pub beside the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Visitors to this lovely pub will often find lovely canal boats moored next to it. The owners of those boats often come ashore to sample the delicious wines and cask ales. The George Inn in Bathampton features a waterside location, delightful rural setting, and ample outdoor terrace.
