Images of Britain: Buxton Town Hall, Buxton, Derbyshire

Buxton Town Hall in Market Place, Buxton, Derbyshire dates from 1889. It is close to a pleasant park, The Slopes and just a short walk from The Crescent, Pavilion Gardens and the excellent Scrivener's bookshop.
Constructed in local millstone grit in the French style it somewhat resembles the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. The building also once housed the first free public library in Buxton.

Outside the town hall is a 15th century market cross with only the vertical section still standing. The town hall is a meeting place of High Peak Borough Council.
The town hall is about 10 minutes on foot from Buxton Station and just across the road from the Buxton Museum & Art Gallery.
