The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, dates from 1971. It is known for staging both dramatic productions, particularly classics and contemporary plays as well as the annual World Snooker Championship, the most prestigious event in professional snooker. The World Snooker Championship has been held at the Crucible since 1977.

The building was designed by architect Tanya Moiseiwitsch (1914-2003).

The main theatre seats 980 people with the smaller Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse accommodating 400 people. The Grade II listed theatre was completely refurbished between 2007 and 2009.

The name "crucible" relates to a process from Sheffield's steel industry. Adjacent to the Crucible is the 1,068-seat Lyceum Theatre.

The theatre is about 10 minutes on foot from Sheffield Station and only 6 minutes from the National Videogame Museum.
