The station is situated in the northeastern part of central London, close to the financial district known as the City of London. It is located between Bishopsgate and Broadgate. It is the UK's busiest station, serving approximately 64 million passengers a year. There are five entrances to the station, which appears as one of the four UK stations along with Fenchurch Street, King's Cross and Marylebone on the board game Monopoly.

History

Liverpool Street Station was opened in 1874 by the Great Eastern Railway (GER). The station was designed by the architect Edward Wilson and named after the street on which it was located, which itself was named after the British Prime Minister Robert Banks Jenkinson, 2nd Earl of Liverpool.

The station was built by the Liverpool Street Station and Railway House Company. The architecture is notable for its grand facade, with a mixture of red brick and Portland stone. The Great Eastern Hotel, located adjacent to the station, was also part of the original design.

Over the years, the station has undergone several expansions and modifications to accommodate the increasing number of passengers and services. In recent decades, Liverpool Street Station has continued to evolve.

The 35 bus runs from south of the river from Clapham Junction to Shoreditch via Elephant & Castle and London Bridge. The 42 heads north from East Dulwich to Liverpool Street. The 47 service runs from Lewisham to Shoreditch with stops at Deptford Bridge (on the DLR), Surrey Quays, Canada Water and London Bridge.
