York Station, York

Britain once led the world in railway technology. The world's first station was Crown Street railway station in Liverpool which was built in 1830. Crown Street was on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway (L&MR) the world's first inter-city railway.

The 19th century was the golden age of railway and station construction in the UK. Hundreds of veritable temples of transport were built during this time, many of which still survive today.

Waterloo Station in London remains Britain's busiest railway station followed by London Victoria and Liverpool Street, also in the capital.
