A large equestrian statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie stands outside Derby Cathedral in Cathedral Green, Derby.

The impressive, bronze statue commemorates the Jacobite Rising of 1745, when troops of the Jacobite Army, under the command of Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie), arrived in Derby on 4 December 1745 as part of their campaign to advance towards London in a failed effort to overthrow the reigning House of Hanover.

The memorial sits on a sandstone pedestal and was erected in 1995. It is the work of Derbyshire-born sculptor Anthony Stones (1934-2016) and marks the 250th anniversary of the Prince's occupation of Derby.

Stones studied art in Manchester before leaving with his family for New Zealand at age 18. His work can be seen in New Zealand, the UK and also in Beijing, China, where he designed statues for the 2008 Olympic Games in the Chinese capital. He died in the UK in 2016.
