The interesting Millennium Gallery in Sheffield is close to Sheffield Station and Sheffield Hallam University. The museum and art gallery showcases a wide range of art, crafts, and design.
History
The museum opened in 2001 as part of Sheffield's Heart of the City project which also included nearby Millennium Square. The gallery boasts two permanent collections, along with a further two spaces dedicated to temporary exhibitions. There are also areas for hosting corporate events and weddings, as well as a café and a shop.
Exhibits
The permanent Ruskin Collection features a collection of coins, drawings, illustrated books, manuscripts, plaster casts, and prints donated to the city in 1875 by the Victorian scholar and art critic John Ruskin.
The collection is owned by the Guild of St George established by Ruskin though managed and rotated by Museums Sheffield at the Millennium Gallery.
The Sykes Gallery Metalwork Collection, totaling over 13,000 objects, is a comprehensive compilation of Sheffield-made cutlery, flatware (forks and spoons), and holloware (such as bowls, teapots, and containers). It serves as a showcase of exemplary design and superior craftsmanship from across the globe, aiming to inspire the city's manufacturers, designers, and artisans.
The Craft & Design gallery is a temporary exhibition space featuring exhibitions by artists, designers and illustrators from all over the world. The Millennium Gallery often features touring exhibitions from its partnerships with the National Portrait Gallery, the Tate and V&A.
The gallery opens up into the adjoining Sheffield Winter Garden.

Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.
The gallery features a shop where visitors can purchase art prints, books, and other merchandise often by local Sheffield-based crafts people. The Ambulo cafe is also a pleasant place to relax with both indoor and outdoor seating.

The museum and gallery is free to enter (donations welcome).
The nearest Sheffield Supertram network stop is Sheffield Station / Hallam University on the Blue and Purple routes.
Sheffield Station has trains to London St Pancras, Liverpool Lime Street, Huddersfield Station, Leeds via Barnsley, Cleethorpes via Doncaster, Wakefield Westgate, Leeds, York Station in York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow Central & Aberdeen. There are also trains from Sheffield to Piccadilly Station in Manchester and Stockport Station in Stockport.
There are buses to and from Sheffield to the spa town of Buxton in Derbyshire.
Nearby
Within easy walking distance of the museum and gallery is the Sheffield Steelworker mural, Sheffield Cathedral, the Graves Gallery and both the Crucible and Lyceum theatres.
The fun, child-centered National Videogame Museum (NVM) is a 10-minute walk to the north in Castle House on Angel Street.
The National Emergency Services Museum is also less than 15 minutes on foot. A little further away heading north again from the National Emergency Services Museum is the excellent Kelham Island Museum in the now trendy Kelham Island district.
