History

The original parish church was St. Tudno's, a small structure on top of the Great Orme, the massive headland towering over Llandudno.

St. Tudno's is where the name Llandudno is derived from. It was damaged in a big storm in 1830 and so a new church, St. George's, was built down in the town, but when it closed in 2002 Holy Trinity became the parish church.

Holy Trinity was consecrated in 1874 and was built for the huge influx of English-speaking holiday makers who came to the expanding seaside resort from the nearby industrial cities of Liverpool and Manchester. The tower was added in 1882 followed a year later by eight bells.

The church has some lovely stained-glass windows and also worth a look is The Angel, a statue carved in teak by Handel Edwards in 1970. 31 scenes from the life of Christ are carved into the wings.

Access - Getting to Llandudno

Llandudno is on the A546 and is a short drive from Colwyn Bay. From Chester follow the A55 to reach the town.

There are trains to Manchester Piccadilly via Colwyn Bay, Rhyl, Prestatyn, Flint, Chester Station and Warrington.

There are also services to Llandudno Junction which connects to Bangor & Holyhead and on to Birmingham New Street, London and South Wales. Llandudno also has trains to Cardiff Central Station via Wrexham General.

Llandudno railway station is the terminus of a short branch line from Llandudno Junction on the Crewe to Holyhead North Wales Coast Line.

Llandudno Victoria station is the lower terminus of the Great Orme Tramway. It is a 15-minute walk from the station.

Accommodation

As a popular holiday resort that attracts visitors from nearby Liverpool and Manchester, the town has many places to stay. These range from cheaper guest houses and B&B’s to hotels.

Some recommended places to stay include The Grand Hotel, the three-star The Broadway Hotel, and the four-star St George’s Hotel.
